Uninet: iColor Printers

Introducing a New Way To Print.

UniNet, worldwide original equipment manufacturer of quality printing equipment, hired [zdi] to launch their new product: “iColor Printing Solutions”, a subsidiary line of apparel and label printers. The scope included the production of intuitive insight marketing videos highlighting the capabilities and ease-of-use of the iColor line. In addition, building an online presence was needed to increase the iColor’s profile, help familiarize the public with the printers’ capabilities, and create a friendly forum for users to communicate with the iColor team.

[zdi] continues Uninet's iColor marketing initiatives to this day, with a constant online campaign to increase public awareness, expand iColor’s customer base, and position the iColor brand in a challenging market.

Video Production

Pre-Production, Script & Storyboarding

With any project, planning is key. The initial steps for video production of this kind entails research and strong collaboration with the client to gather all relevant information. Once familiarized with the product a script can be constructed, and with the client’s help, refined. Storyboarding is crucial in developing the visual requirements of the video and helps identify production issues before a single frame is shot. Once finalized, resources are gathered, all equipment and crew is assembled, locations are scouted, and shooting schedules are set.

Post-Production

It’s in post-production that the story is truly constructed. Using the storyboards and script as a foundation, a rough cut of the video is edited together. The finalized script is recorded by professional voice actors and the voice over put in place, providing the rhythm and timing for the video. All video graphics, including lower thirds, transitions and title sequences, are designed and animated. Segments that work are cut, new segments that improve the project are added. Eventually the final cut is finished, and the video is ready to roll.

The Final Cut

Website Development

Although primarily an information site showcasing the capabilities of iColor printers, the web site needed to serve as a communication tool with UniNet clientele and distributors, providing a source of news and technical support.

Information Architecture

Incorporating the different purposes of the site into a user friendly experience is key to a successful design. Organization is critical, and by planning out the site structure in advance we get a clear picture of what works and what doesn’t, and creates a complete skeleton of the site’s structure to build upon.

Wireframing

Once all content is gathered and messaging written for the site, the creation of fully populated wireframes gives the team and the client a clear picture of how the site content will be presented. Adjustments can be made and problems corrected before the wireframe is finalized and sent to the UI/UX designers who will create the front end.

Responsive Design

The UI/UX design team always keeps in mind that the web site will live on mobile devices as well as desktops, and it needs to present well on all platforms accordingly. Working closely with the programmers/developers, the design is crafted to create a responsive, effective and dynamic user experience that looks good wherever the user is seeing it.
